Tips for Choosing a Family Tent

There are some things to consider when choosing a family tent. Weight is probably the least important consideration unless you're going to be carrying it around.

The most important thing to consider when choosing a family tent is space. The bigger the tent, the more space your family can comfortably enjoy and the better you can sleep.

If you want to be able to stand inside the stand it's a good idea to have a good amount of headroom. If you want to have a lot of headroom go for a high ceiling cabin tent because there will be much more usable headroom compared to dome tents. Open mesh windows and roofs not only lets you look at the sky, it also creates an illusion of space which is great. Your tent not only feels bigger, it looks bigger as well if there are awnings.

For some place to store you gear, dirty boots and wet clothing, a vestibule is highly useful. This may be optional in some tents and you might have to spit out some cash to get it.

The tent's ability to keep out the rain is also important because if not, it will really spoil your camping trip. Cheap tents usually fail miserably in this area unless you waterproof the tent well enough. A weatherproof tent should have a full rainfly, bathtub floors, and sealed seams.

There's no point if a tent can keep you dry from the rain outside but forms water on the ceiling inside. This happens when warm water vapor emitted by your body is cooled down at the ceiling, forming a condensate that would eventually drip down and might even create a pool of water.

You can consider the packed size if you're going to backpack with your family or have a limited space in your car. A tent that packs small usually cost a lot more.

Some people appreciate the fact that most family tents are freestanding. This allows the tent to be moved without having to take it down which can sometimes be very useful. However, it's always a good idea to stake a tent down to prevent the wind from blowing it away.

When you're camping, you should spend a minimal amount of time setting up the tent especially if you don't enjoy it. Find out how long it takes to set up the tent and how easy it is. Ask for a demonstration in the store or look for the video online. If you want to make it easier to set up the tent, practice doing it at home before going to the campsite.

Price is a big consideration and large family tents are usually costly. The larger the tent, the more expensive it is. Even so I do not recommend cheap tents at discount stores because they're poor at keep out the weather and you'll notice a malfunction just after using it a few times. It's really not the type of tent you want to use in bad weather If you buy cheap tents, be prepared to buy again for your next trip or make some major improvements to it.
